#28 Modify "3 strikes and out" mechanism, it is not working

Currently:

  • db updates every something like 12 hours
  • if it fails to update on ISP 3 times, it kicks it out
  • and send the contact address an email about that
  • and won't update until the link in the email address is used

This method has not been working for the following reasons:

  • ISPs regulary miss the email or just doesn't handle it
  • the email is sometime not send
  • the people in charge of db aren't informed
  • we don't have any obvious place to show this information

The result is that no ones is aware about which ISP data is up to date or not until someone takes the time to dig into the database and the ISP aren't remind that they are out, therefor, we end up with old data and no one is aware about that.

Here is a list of possible solutions:

  • add something@ffdn.org in CC to "out" emails
  • re-send the "out" email periodically
  • display on the website a list of "out" FAI
  • just stop putting FAI out?
  • retry even after 3 times, maybe just wait a few days or once per 1 or 2 weeks?
  • send a monthly report on the situation of striked out ISP to something@ffdn.org
  • have a way to retry using the link in the email but directly from the website or something? Right now the group of people is too small and the link is lost
