  124. b10-loadzone was fully overhauled. It now uses C++-based zone
  125. parser and loader library, performing stricter checks, having
  126. more complete support for master file formats, producing more
  127. helpful logs, is more extendable for various types of data
  128. sources, and yet much faster than the old version. In
  129. functionality the new version should be generally backwards
  130. compatible to the old version, but there are some
  131. incompatibilities: name fields of RDATA (in NS, SOA, etc) must
  132. be absolute for now; due to the stricter checks some input that was

  134. command line options and arguments are not compatible.

  137. The in-memory data source now uses a more complete master
  138. file parser to load textual zone files. As of this change
  139. it supports multi-line RR representation and more complete
  140. support for escaped and quoted strings. It also produces
  141. more helpful log messages when there is an error in the zone
  142. file. It will be enhanced as more specific tasks in the

  144. backward compatible to the previous one, but due to the
  145. tighter checks some input that has been accepted so far

  362. Fixed a problem that shutting down BIND 10 kept some of the
  363. processes alive. It was two-fold: when the main bind10 process
  364. started as a root, started b10-sockcreator with the privilege, and
  365. then dropped the privilege, the bind10 process cannot kill the
  366. sockcreator via signal any more (when it has to), but it kept
  367. sending the signal and didn't stop. Also, when running on Python
  368. 3.1 (or older), the sockcreator had some additional file
  369. descriptor open, which prevented it from exiting even after the
  370. bind10 process terminated. Now the bind10 process simply gives up
  371. killing a subprocess if it fails due to lack of permission, and it
  372. makes sure the socket creator is spawned without any unnecessary
  373. FDs open.

  456. Memory footprint of the in-memory data source has been
  457. substantially improved. For example, b10-auth now requires much

  462. Notes: multiple instances of b10-auth still make separate copies

2420. src/bin/auth: Added a feature to count queries and send counter
2421. values to statistics periodically. To support it, added wrapping
2422. class of asio::deadline_timer to use as interval timer.
2423. The counters can be seen using the "Stats show" command from
2424. bindctl. The result would look like:
  2425. ... "auth.queries.tcp": 1, "auth.queries.udp": 1 ...
2426. Using the "Auth sendstats" command you can make b10-auth send the

  2429. 139. [build] jreed
2430. Introduced configure option and make targets for generating

  2435. 138. [func]* jinmei
2436. b10-auth: added a configuration interface to support in memory
2437. data sources. For example, the following command to bindctl
2438. will configure a memory data source containing the "example.com"
2439. zone with the zone file named "example.com.zone":
  2440. > config set Auth/datasources/ [{"type": "memory", "zones": \
  2441. [{"origin": "example.com", "file": "example.com.zone"}]}]
2442. By default, the memory data source is disabled; it must be
2443. configured explicitly. To disable it again, specify a null list
  2444. for Auth/datasources:
  2445. > config set Auth/datasources/ []
2446. Notes: it's currently for class IN only. The zone files are not
2447. actually loaded into memory yet (which will soon be implemented).
2448. This is an experimental feature and the syntax may change in

2535. The master file parser of the python datasrc module incorrectly
2536. regarded a domain name beginning with a decimal number as a TTL
2537. specification. This confused b10-loadzone and had it reject to
2538. load a zone file that contains such a name.
2539. Note: this fix is incomplete and the loadzone would still be
2540. confused if the owner name is a syntactically indistinguishable

  2543. 118. [func] jinmei
2544. src/lib/dns: changed the interface of

  2656. 93. [bug] jinmei
2657. lib/datasrc: A DS query could crash the library (and therefore,
2658. e.g. the authoritative server) if some RR of the same apex name

2661. libdns_python (the python wrappers for libdns++) has been renamed
2662. to pydnspp (Python DNS++). Programs and libraries that used

  2665. 91. [func]* jinmei
2666. lib/cc: Use const pointers and const member functions for the API
2667. as much as possible for safer operations. Basically this does not
2668. change the observable behavior, but some of the API were changed
2669. in a backward incompatible manner. This change also involves more
2670. copies, but at this moment the overhead is deemed acceptable.

  2672. 90. [build] jinmei
2673. (Darwin/Mac OS X specific) Specify DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH for tests and
2674. experimental run under the source tree. Without this loadable
2675. python modules refer to installation paths, which may confuse the
2676. operation due to version mismatch or even trigger run time errors
2677. due to missing libraries. (Trac #313, r2782)

2682. Blocking reads on the msgq command channel now have a timeout

  2690. (Trac #289, svn r2737)
  2691. 86. [func] jerry
2692. bin/zonemgr: Added zone manager module. The zone manager is one
2693. of the co-operating processes of BIND 10, which keeps track of
2694. timers and other information necessary for BIND 10 to act as a
  2695. slave. (Trac #215, svn r2737)
  2696. 85. [build]* jinmei
2697. Build programs using dynamic link by default. A new configure
2698. option --enable-static-link is provided to force static link for
2699. executable programs. Statically linked programs can be run on a
2700. debugger more easily and would be convenient for developers.
  2701. (Trac #309, svn r2723)
  2702. bind10-devel-20100812 released on August 12, 2010
  2703. 84. [bug] jinmei, jerry
2704. This is a quick fix patch for the issue: AXFR fails half the
2705. time because of connection problems. xfrout client will make
2706. a new connection every time. (Trac #299, svn r2697)
  2707. 83. [build]* jreed
2708. The configure --with-boost-lib option is removed. It was not
2709. used since the build included ASIO. (svn r2684)
  2710. 82. [func] jinmei
2711. bin/auth: Added -u option to change the effective process user
2712. of the authoritative server after invocation. The same option to
2713. the boss process will be propagated to b10-auth, too.
  2714. (Trac #268, svn r2675)
  2715. 81. [func] jinmei
2716. Added a C++ framework for micro benchmark tests. A supplemental
2717. library functions to build query data for the tests were also
  2718. provided. (Trac #241, svn r2664)
  2719. 80. [bug] jelte
2720. bindctl no longer accepts configuration changes for unknown or
2721. non-running modules (for the latter, this is until we have a
2722. way to verify those options, at which point it'll be allowed
  2723. again).
  2724. (Trac #99, r2657)
  2725. 79. [func] feng, jinmei
2726. Refactored the ASIO link interfaces to move incoming XFR and
2727. NOTIFY processing to the auth server class. Wrapper classes for
2728. ASIO specific concepts were also provided, so that other BIND 10
2729. modules can (eventually) use the interface without including the
2730. ASIO header file directly. On top of these changes, AXFR and
2731. NOTIFY processing was massively improved in terms of message
2732. validation and protocol conformance. Detailed tests were provided
  2733. to confirm the behavior.
2734. Note: Right now, NOTIFY doesn't actually trigger subsequent zone
2735. transfer due to security reasons. (Trac #221, r2565)
  2736. 78. [bug] jinmei
2737. lib/dns: Fixed miscellaneous bugs in the base32 (hex) and hex
2738. (base16) implementation, including incorrect padding handling,
2739. parser failure in decoding with a SunStudio build, missing
2740. validation on the length of encoded hex string. Test cases were
2741. more detailed to identify these bugs and confirm the fix. Also
2742. renamed the incorrect term of "base32" to "base32hex". This
2743. changed the API, but they are not intended to be used outside
2744. libdns++, so we don't consider it a backward incompatible change.
  2745. (Trac #256, r2549)
  2746. 77. [func] zhanglikun
2747. Make error message be more friendly when running cmdctl and it's
  2748. already running (listening on same port)(Trac #277, r2540)
  2749. 76. [bug] jelte
2750. Fixed a bug in the handling of 'remote' config modules (i.e.
2751. modules that peek at the configuration of other modules), where
2752. they answered 'unknown command' to commands for those other
  2753. modules. (Trac #278, r2506)
  2754. 75. [bug] jinmei
2755. Fixed a bug in the sqlite3 data source where temporary strings

2757. failures with SunStudio build. (Trac #288, r2494)
  2758. 74. [func]* jinmei
2759. Refactored the cc::Session class by introducing an abstract base
2760. class. Test code can use their own derived mock class so that
2761. tests can be done without establishing a real CC session. This
2762. change also modified some public APIs, mainly in the config
  2763. module. (Trac #275, r2459)
  2764. 73. [bug] jelte
2765. Fixed a bug where in bindctl, locally changed settings were

  2767. r2452)
  2768. 72. [build] jinmei
2769. Added -R when linking python wrapper modules to libpython when
2770. possible. This helps build BIND 10 on platforms that install

  2772. known such platform. (Trac #148, r2427)

2780. performance. Also added a "-n" ("no cache") option to
2781. bind10 and b10-auth to disable the cache if needed.
  2782. (Trac #192, svn r2383)
  2783. bind10-devel-20100701 released on July 1, 2010
  2784. 69. [func]* jelte
2785. Added python wrappers for libdns++ (isc::dns), and libxfr. This
2786. removes the dependency on Boost.Python. The wrappers don't
2787. completely implement all functionality, but the high-level API
2788. is wrapped, and current modules use it now.
  2789. (Trac #181, svn r2361)
  2790. 68. [func] zhanglikun
2791. Add options -c (--certificate-chain) to bindctl. Override class

2793. Add support to cmdctl.spec file, now there are three configurable
  2794. items for cmdctl: 'key_file', 'cert_file' and 'accounts_file',
2795. all of them can be changed in runtime.
  2796. (Trac #127, svn r2357)

2816. time units for TTLs, and fix bug to not use class as part
2817. of label name when records don't have a label but do have
2818. a class. Added verbose options to exactly what is happening

3048. compatibility to fix the bug.
3049. [build] compilation and installation infrastructure change.
3050. [doc] update to documentation. This shouldn't change run time behavior.
3051. [func] new feature. In some cases this may be a backward incompatible
3052. change, which would require a bump of major version.
3053. [security] security hole fix. This is no different than a general bug

  3055. security patch releases.
3056. *: Backward incompatible or operational change.
